The customer can use it to make payments or purchases at affiliated stores by linking a Visa or MasterCard credit, debit, or prepaid card through the scanning of a QR code. This QR code allows for the storage of information through a two-dimensional matrix of points or barcodes, which can identify a variety of information.

In the case of the Smartmoney application, it is used to identify the store where a purchase or payment is being made. When making a payment, the user will need to enter their PIN number. During setup, the application must be associated with a 4-digit numerical code that will be used to authorize payments or purchases. This number is personalized and is not related to the user's card PIN number.
